To the Mountains: WV and MD

This past weekend, my wife, the dog and I took a short trip out west from our sea level life in Annapolis, Maryland, to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley.

We stayed at a Home2 Suites in Martinsburg, WV. If you travel with a dog, you understand the challenges of finding nice places to stay and eat. Home2 Suites by Hilton is supremely comfortable and convenient. With Tucker in his crate at the hotel, we ate at Thai Martinsburg on Saturday evening. Because of the rain, the patio was closed for dog-friendly dining, which was the original plan.

Our West Virginia portion of the trip included a nice hike at Poor House Farm Park, a county park just outside of town.

Our Sunday visit and drive through the valley ended with breathtaking views of West Virginia and Maryland from Washington Monument State Park. While at the park, we picked up the 2024 Explore South Mountain Recreation Area Guide, which is full of information and maps of Maryland state parks and programs for the area. With this in hand, we plan to return soon to western Maryland.
