Theta and Alpha music for relaxation

One of the easiest and quickest ways to get into a state of relaxation is to plug into some Theta or Alpha music. Some say these states are the best for learning as well. Explore the results with the audio examples below.

We can also boost relaxation with exercise and meditation. Think about how you feel after a good walk, bike ride or paddle. You actually altered your “state of mind.”

“Another way to boost your alphas, surprisingly, is to do high intensity work-outs. Doing so releases endorphins that which give you that exercise “high” but they also promote alpha waves as you rest.”

“Regular meditation has been shown to increase alpha waves – your relaxation brain waves – and reduce beta waves – the brain waves of active thought and learning. That’s why it’s most commonly recommended for reducing stress. Deep breathing and closed-eye visualization are techniques that mindfulness meditation usually employs to boost alpha waves.”

“Brain waves are oscillating electrical voltages in the brain measuring just a few millionths of a volt. There are five widely recognized brain waves, and the main frequencies of human EEG waves are listed in Table 2.1 along with their characteristics.”

From article above:

Frequency band – Frequency Brain states

Gamma (γ)>35 Hz Concentration

Beta (β)12–35 Hz Anxiety dominant, active, external attention, relaxed

Alpha (α)8–12 Hz Very relaxed, passive attention

Theta (θ)4–8 Hz Deeply relaxed, inward focused

Delta (δ)0.5–4 Hz Sleep

“… brainwaves can be altered by various external stimuli. Auditory stimuli and especially music are among the most interesting. As the famous British neurologist Oliver Sacks states, “our auditory systems, our nervous systems are tuned for music. Perhaps we are a musical species no less than a linguistic one.”

Theta:

“Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep but are also dominant in deep meditation. Theta is our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. In theta, our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within. It is that twilight state which we normally only experience fleetingly as we wake or drift off to sleep…”

Alpha:

“Alpha wave music is music that can heal the body and soul. Very suitable for meditation, relaxation and help you easily fall asleep. Listen to this sound, you will improve your health, your brain and mind will get rid of negative energy…”
